Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Extreme Spotted Testing with Massive Rear Wing at Nürburgring

Xiaomi is pushing its performance limits with the SU7 Ultra Extreme prototype, seen testing at the Nürburgring featuring a striking new aerodynamic package. Most noticeable is the huge dual-plane rear spoiler that dominates the car’s rear, signaling Xiaomi’s effort to chase a circuit lap record.

Aggressive Aerodynamics for Track Focus

The SU7 Ultra Extreme has evolved from earlier prototypes with much more track-focused bodywork. At the front, larger air intakes and a more prominent splitter boost downforce and cooling. The side skirts have grown, and even the fender vents have been redesigned—a rare detail for an electric sedan. At the back, the giant double-layer spoiler with swan-neck supports stands out. This setup reportedly includes a drag reduction system (DRS), helping reduce drag during straight-line sections, something previous fixed spoilers lacked.

The rear diffuser also echoes elements seen on the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package, hinting at a serious aerodynamic effort. This full aero kit suggests Xiaomi is working to balance downforce and drag, crucial for high-speed stability around the Green Hell.

To handle aggressive braking on the demanding track, the test car runs carbon-ceramic brakes, a necessity for a heavyweight electric performance sedan pushed to its limits.

Power and Purpose Remain Unclear but Ambitious

While Xiaomi has confirmed a European launch for the SU7 Ultra model in 2027, the Ultra Extreme version appears to be strictly a track-focused machine that won’t reach dealerships. The current SU7 Ultra packs 1,548 horsepower from three electric motors, but rumors suggest the Extreme variant may increase power beyond 2,000 hp, possibly adding a fourth motor. Official details, however, remain under wraps.

This focus on track performance over volume sales is clear from Xiaomi’s silence on whether the Extreme will ever be sold or produced beyond limited numbers. The prototype’s appearance at Nürburgring points to an attempt to reclaim a lap record, after the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach managed to set a new benchmark and the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door electric sedan is also raising the bar with a rumored 1,400-hp version in development.

A previous SU7 Ultra pre-series model ran a 6:22 lap at Nürburgring, a massive improvement compared to the 7:04 of the production version, demonstrating how different the racing prototype is from the street car.

Xiaomi’s strategy seems to prioritize performance bragging rights at the Nürburgring over immediate sales success. Even if the Extreme’s aggressive aero and higher power won’t translate into a showroom version, it highlights the brand’s growing ambitions in the high-performance electric car world.
