Unusual Wheel Arches Suggest Porsche Development
The spotted prototype looks like a typical Audi Q5, but with noticeably enlarged wheel arches. This feature hints at a wider track or upgraded suspension and braking components. Such changes fit a vehicle aimed at higher performance than the standard Q5.
Since the next Porsche SUV will reportedly share Audi’s PPE platform underneath, using a Q5 body as a development mule makes sense. However, Porsche is expected to fit the SUV with its own chassis tuning, steering setup, and unique design elements.

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has indicated the next gas-powered SUV must feel like a proper Porsche, with distinct engineering and technology. Despite continuing combustion and electrified engines, this new model will likely not carry the Macan name. The Macan name is set to be used exclusively for Porsche’s fully electric SUV built on the PPE platform.
The gas-powered successor is expected to arrive around 2028, offering a mix of traditional and electrified powertrains. Its prototype stage is just beginning, so more sightings and details may emerge as development continues.
