Lexus is testing a high-performance version of its RX SUV, known as the Morizo RR, which aims to compete with powerful German rivals. A prototype mule has been spotted at Nürburgring showing features that hint at a sporty and wider design paired with Brembo brakes and large wheels.
A Sportier, More Aggressive Lexus RX in Development
The RX Morizo RR prototype was caught alone without support vehicles or engineers, highlighting the unexpected nature of this sighting. While it could be mistaken for a sportier F Sport model at first glance, closer inspection reveals clear differences. The large red Brembo brake calipers gripping drilled discs stand out, as do the big 21-inch multi-spoke wheels wrapped in staggered Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires (265/40 front, 295/35 rear). These suggest a more powerful rear-biased setup and reinforced chassis.
The bodywork shows wider fender arches, but these are provisional parts. The front grille’s lower air intakes appear borrowed from the current RX 500h F Sport Performance. The vehicle’s lowered stance and wider track contribute to a more aggressive look compared to the standard RX. At the back, dual exhaust outlets reinforce the performance image.
Powertrain Expectations Center on a Hybrid System
This new sporty RX is reportedly being developed by Toyota GAZOO Racing to challenge high-performance German SUVs like the Audi RS Q8 and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, which offer over 600 hp from V8 engines. Lexus’s approach seems different, focusing on a hybrid setup that combines a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with approximately 400 hp—planned for the next-gen Celica—with two electric motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive. If confirmed, this would be Lexus’s most powerful hybrid powertrain to date.
