Italian engine maker Italtecnica has introduced a new 3.3-liter V6 engine designed for high-performance sports cars. The naturally aspirated engine produces 400 horsepower and stands out for its ability to reach 9,000 rpm while keeping a lightweight package under 130 kg. This marks a fresh approach from the company, focusing on a lively and thrilling driving experience rather than sheer power.
A New V6 Platform Built from Scratch
Italtecnica’s latest engine is a clean-sheet design featuring a 90-degree V6 layout. The company highlights improvements in weight, performance, sound quality, and reliability, all within a street-legal package. One key innovation is the sequential ignition system, which spaces out cylinder firing evenly to reduce vibration and smooth out engine operation, enhancing its naturally aspirated character.
Different Philosophy Compared to Previous Italtecnica V6
This new engine significantly diverges from Italtecnica’s previous V6, known as the ITV6, which was heavier at around 180 kg. The older engine came only with twin-turbochargers, offered in displacements between 2.8 and 3.2 liters, and produced between 640 and 740 horsepower with a redline of 7,200 rpm. The new V6, in contrast, drops turbos for now, adds displacement to 3.3 liters, loses almost 50 kg in weight, and raises the redline to 9,000 rpm.
With a lower output of 400 horsepower, the engine aims to deliver a lighter, more responsive feel that prioritizes driving enjoyment and engine character rather than just power numbers.
Turbocharged Version Expected Soon
While the naturally aspirated 400 hp variant is the first to be revealed, Italtecnica plans to introduce a turbocharged model later this year. Given the company’s track record of powering exclusive Italian sports cars like the Kimera EVO37/38, Totem Automobili, and Giamaro Katla, this new V6 could soon be at the heart of several high-end supercars. The turbocharged version is expected to boost power significantly beyond the current model’s figures.
