Mercedes-Benz is recalling 310,667 vehicles from seven models built between 2019 and 2026 because of a possible rollaway risk. The recall affects models including the CLA, A-Class, C-Class, CLE, GLA, GLB, and GLC.
Microswitch Problem Could Stop Auto Park from Activating
The recall centers on a microswitch in the driver’s door lock. This switch is responsible for detecting if the door is open. If it fails, the car may not automatically engage the electronic parking brake or the “Auto Park” feature when the driver exits.
According to the recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), moisture can enter the switch’s housing. Over time, this can cause corrosion and make the switch stop working correctly. The issue does not impact the physical door lock but can prevent the system from recognizing that the door is open.
Impact and Dealer Fix
The defect could increase the risk of the vehicle rolling away after being parked, though Mercedes-Benz said there have been no reported incidents of cars rolling away due to this issue.
Owners of affected models will receive notifications by September 18. Mercedes dealers will replace the faulty driver’s door lock microswitch with a more durable part that meets required standards. Customers are advised to contact their local dealership for service after receiving the recall notice.
