Just before the Paris Motor Show 2026 officially opens, FIAT presented the Multiplay concept, a versatile vehicle designed to explore future family mobility. This concept combines elements of a monovolume, SUV, and pickup, featuring an unusual 6+1 seating layout and a unique modular design.
A Nod to the Classic Multipla with Modern Versatility
The Multiplay concept takes clear inspiration from FIAT’s iconic Multipla models from the past, particularly the original 600 Multipla of 1956 and the more recent 1998 six-seater. While those earlier models were compact, the Multiplay measures about 4.45 metres long. It keeps the focus on flexible seating for families, offering six main seats plus an additional “Petsenger seat” designed for pets, emphasizing the vehicle’s family-friendly intention.

Modular Design for Changing Family Needs
The key feature of the Multiplay is its “Metamorfosi” architecture, particularly around the rear section. This movable module allows the vehicle’s shape and purpose to shift—from carrying more passengers as a monovolume or SUV to becoming a four-seat pickup with an open bed. This can be handy for families who need a car that adapts to different situations, like school runs, outdoor trips, or work tasks.
The concept also addresses common challenges of multi-row seating. The third row is designed to offer more space than usual, accommodating adults or kids comfortably. Inside, the cabin uses waterproof materials in areas intended for children and pets, making it practical for messy family travel. The front passenger seat can even transform into a “Sunseat” chaise longue to enjoy the panoramic roof.

Interior Innovations and Family Focus
Reflecting FIAT’s Italian design roots, the Multiplay interior features bright summer tones with red and green accents inspired by watermelons. The cabin skips traditional visible stitching in favor of a smooth 3D dot process on materials. A clever feature is a hidden central touchscreen that only appears when in use, helping keep the dashboard clean and simple.
Storage solutions abound with numerous pockets, elastic bands, and multifunctional spaces, designed to make everyday family life easier. The “Petsenger seat” cushion cleverly converts into a leash and comes with a foldable food and water bowl for pets, showing a thoughtful touch for animal owners.

No Plans for Production Yet
FIAT and its parent group, Stellantis, describe the Multiplay as a “laboratory of solutions” rather than a preview of a production car. It is meant to show how a single vehicle could cover many roles in future family mobility. Currently, there are no official plans to bring this model to market.
This flexible approach is part of Stellantis’s effort to rethink vehicle use in households where multiple cars are common. The Multiplay’s adaptability could reduce the need for several cars by offering a vehicle that can be customized between carrying people or cargo as required.
While the Multiplay concept will not become a production vehicle, its ideas may influence FIAT’s future designs and strategies for family-oriented vehicles.
