Citroën Unveils 2 CV Concept as a Prelude to an Affordable Electric Car

At the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Citroën introduced the 2 CV Concept, a modern take on the classic “two horses” model. This concept previews a new, fully electric car aimed at being affordable for European buyers, with a starting price targeted around €15,000. The production version is expected to arrive by 2028.

A Contemporary Look With Classic Roots

The 2 CV Concept maintains distinct design cues from the original 2 CV, such as round headlights and simple body lines, but updates them with modern touches. It features LED daytime running lights, a sculpted hood, and visible windshield wipers, offering a blend of nostalgic and contemporary style. The concept is shorter than the original, measuring 3.76 metres long, and falls into the B-segment, placing it between Citroën’s C3 and C4 models.

Other vintage-inspired details include 19-inch steel wheels and door handles that echo the original design. The rear roof is a retractable fabric top, emphasizing practicality and lightness. A large black tailgate extends down to the bumper, flanked by LED taillights and a notably short rear overhang.

Inside: Simple, Practical, and Uncluttered

The cabin focuses on comfort and utility. Citroën has eliminated the traditional dashboard, creating a more open and airy space. Wide bench seats provide a roomy feel, while door panels include handy storage pockets. The front bench is removable, enhancing the car’s versatility. Instead of a center console, there’s a removable basket for extra space.

Door handles use flexible straps, and the steering wheel is slim with multifunction controls. The main control interface is an 8-inch touchscreen for multimedia functions. Unusually, the radio is designed to be detachable and can double as a portable speaker.

Lightweight Build for Efficiency

Citroën has not shared specific battery or motor details yet. However, the car weighs only about 1,000 kilograms. This light weight should allow the use of a smaller, less expensive battery while still providing effective range and performance. This approach follows Citroën’s existing strategy with affordable electric models like the Ami and ë-C3, which have been well received.

When and Where the 2 CV Will Arrive

Citroën plans to launch the production version of the 2 CV in 2028, building it in Europe. It will comply with the European Union’s upcoming E-Car regulations for emissions and efficiency. The targeted starting price is around €15,000 before any government incentives or discounts, making it one of the most affordable EVs planned for the European market.

This new 2 CV aims to continue Citroën’s push into practical, budget-friendly electric cars by reviving a beloved name with fresh, eco-friendly technology.
