Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled the 2027 GLS 680, an updated flagship SUV that offers more power, a refreshed design, and enhanced luxury features. The new model will reach dealerships later this year.
More Powerful V8 Engine
The 2027 Maybach GLS 680 is powered by Mercedes’ latest twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, known as the M1770 Evo. It delivers:
- 603 horsepower
- 627 pound-feet of torque
- 53 hp and 89 lb-ft more than the previous version
- Electrification with a second-generation starter generator for improved performance
These upgrades give the GLS 680 stronger acceleration while maintaining smoothness and refinement expected in a luxury SUV.

Updated Suspension and Steering
Mercedes revised the GLS’s steering system for better handling. The Maybach 680 comes standard with the Airmatic air suspension, which enhances ride comfort.
There is also an optional E-Active Body Control system. This technology actively controls spring and damper forces to reduce roll, pitch, and lift, improving ride stability on varying road conditions.

Fresh Exterior Design
The Maybach GLS 680 features a redesigned front end with unique lighting details, including:
- Illuminated grille surround
- Illuminated Maybach grille badge
- Illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz star emblem—a first for the brand
Wheel options include standard 22-inch wheels with a 20-hole design and optional 23-inch forged wheels. The latter have a precision ball-bearing system that keeps the Mercedes star logo upright at all times.
Luxurious Interior and Tech
Inside, the Maybach GLS shares the standard GLS’s advanced MBUX Superscreen, a triple-display infotainment setup with the newest software. Additional luxury touches include:
- Rose Gold dials
- Illuminated outer air vents for climate control
- Improved massage functions for front and second-row seats
- Enhanced Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos, featuring 15 speakers and a 710-watt amplifier
Availability and Pricing
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 will go on sale later this year. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the 2026 Maybach GLS with a 550 hp V8 starts at around $181,350 (approx. €175,000). The new model is expected to cost more, possibly starting near $185,000 (approx. €179,000).
Why It Matters
The updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 raises the bar for luxury three-row SUVs. With more power, advanced tech, and refined styling, it offers a compelling choice for buyers seeking extreme comfort combined with strong performance. This latest version strengthens Maybach’s position as a top luxury SUV brand.
