The only Ferrari Enzo ever produced with a factory matte black finish is set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s. This rare car was specially commissioned by the Royal Family of Brunei and features a distinctive Nero Opaco paint that sets it apart from typical high-gloss exotics.
A One-of-One Matte Black Enzo
Out of the 400 Ferrari Enzos built, this is the sole example finished in a dark, non-reflective matte black. Unlike the usual glossy black exotics, this Enzo’s paint has a deep, almost solid graphite look. Such a unique finish was part of a bespoke order by the Brunei royal household, known for amassing some of the world’s rarest and most exotic cars in private climate-controlled collections.
The car originally spent its first years in London, often seen in upscale neighborhoods like Hampstead and Mayfair. After disappearing from public view for nearly 20 years, it reappeared in Europe in 2022 for an extensive restoration by Ferrari experts at Carrozzeria Zanasi, costing around €120,000.
Low Mileage and Recent Maintenance
Following its restoration, the Enzo was transported to Canada for further preservation and upkeep, handled by Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo and Ferrari of Vancouver. It now has just 5,640 kilometers (about 3,500 miles) on the clock, an exceptionally low figure for a car of its age, indicating it has rarely been driven.
Inside, the cockpit complements the matte black exterior with Nero leather and red race-style instrument dials, preserving the car’s bold and sporty character.
A Collector’s Prize at Auction
RM Sotheby’s will hold the online auction between September 23 and September 30. While standard Ferrari Enzos generally sell between $7.7 million and $13 million, this one-of-a-kind model with royal provenance and fresh mechanical work is expected to attract considerable interest, potentially exceeding typical price ranges for the model.
This Enzo stands out not only for its unique factory paint and connection to the Brunei royal family but also for the care and investment made to keep it in near-perfect condition after years off the road.
