Renault Unveils Fully Electric 8 Gordini Concept with Retro Style and 270 Horsepower

Renault is set to showcase a striking new electric concept car at the 2026 Paris Motor Show—the Renault 8 Gordini Concept. This two-seater coupé echoes the classic 1960s Renault 8 Gordini, blending vintage design cues with modern electric performance.

Modern Take on a Motorsport Icon

The original Renault 8 Gordini, famous for its rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and sporty blue-and-white look, was a beloved rally car tuned by engineer Amédée Gordini. It delivered 95 horsepower and made affordable performance accessible in the mid-20th century.

The new electric concept updates this spirit with a 270-horsepower powertrain, more than doubling the original output and bringing a futuristic edge to the model. Unlike the family sedan roots of the original, the concept adopts a sleek, muscular widebody design inspired by the trendy “café racer” style, popular in custom motorcycle culture for its stripped-back, raw aesthetic.

Design Details and Interior Innovations

The Renault 8 Gordini Concept measures 4.12 meters long, 1.88 meters wide, and 1.27 meters tall (about 162 by 74 by 50 inches). It features distinctive six LED headlights, 19-inch front wheels, and larger 20-inch wheels at the rear, highlighting its aggressive stance. The rear-end design pays tribute to the classic rear-engine setup, preserving the model’s heritage.

Inside, Renault’s design team reinterpreted the original’s dashboard style by turning the traditional horizontal metal panel with circular dials into a row of round digital screens. This creates a cabin that balances retro charm with modern technology, all framed by a smooth, wraparound beltline that improves driver visibility. Although the body uses lightweight carbon fibre, the interior avoids this material to maintain a more classic feel, enhanced by subtle ambient lighting.

Continuing Renault’s Retro Electric Series

This concept follows Renault’s recent trend of reviving iconic models as electric vehicles, after the 2024 Renault 5 E-Tech and the Renault 4 E-Tech crossover. The 8 Gordini Concept takes the nostalgic route further into sportier territory.

Renault says the design came from an extensive process with over 300 proposals, aiming not to rely on nostalgia alone but to inspire true passion for cars in today’s electric era.

The electric 8 Gordini is a concept for now, but it clearly points to Renault’s interest in combining heritage with electric technology. More details about its availability or production plans are expected closer to or after the Paris Motor Show.
