Renault is preparing a facelift for its diesel-powered Trafic van, with spy photos revealing a prototype testing a new front-end design. Instead of a full redesign, the 2028 model will receive updated styling alongside technology and emissions-related improvements.
Fresh Front Design Echoes Electric Trafic
The prototype, spotted in Spain, features heavy camouflage focused on the front bumper, grille, and headlamps. While much of the cab and rear remain unchanged, the front fascia shows a wider lower intake and reshaped light housings. This design aligns the diesel Trafic more closely with the Trafic E-Tech electric version introduced earlier in 2026, which sports a distinctive full-width light signature and large black bumper section.
Although the exhaust outlet seen on the prototype is temporary, its presence hints at efforts to meet upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards. This update is expected to affect both styling and mechanical aspects of the diesel model.
Tech and Safety Upgrades to Match New Rules
Beyond the cosmetic tweaks, the facelift is said to bring enhanced driver assistance features. These include improved emergency braking and systems to monitor driver distraction, aiming to comply with new European safety rules. The passenger-friendly Combi variant will likely receive similar updates.
Production and Market Timing
The Trafic continues to be built at Renault’s Sandouville plant in Normandy, which also assembles the electric version. This centralizes production after past manufacturing took place in the UK and Spain.
The updated diesel Trafic is expected to debut in the second half of 2027, arriving at dealerships as a 2028 model. Prices currently start around 33,900 euros in France for the base L1H1 version, with the Blue dCi 170 automatic as the top diesel variant.
Spy photos so far highlight changes mainly at the front end. Observers are also hoping for new taillights in forthcoming images, which should reveal more details about Renault’s mid-cycle update.
