Peugeot has outlined its upcoming lineup, confirming that the next-generation 2008 will arrive in 2028. This model, along with the new 208 set for 2027, will be built on the new STLA One platform. The company intends to release up to seven new models by 2030 as part of this strategy.
New 208 Leads the Way with STLA One Platform
Peugeot’s third-generation 208 is expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October this year before reaching customers in 2027. This model will introduce STLA One, a new modular multi-energy platform designed by the Stellantis Group. Alongside offering a fully electric variant to replace the current e-208, the new 208 will also be available with gasoline and hybrid powertrains.
The design previewed by the Peugeot Polygon Concept features a modern take on the classic 205 styling from the 1980s and 1990s. While the new 208’s petrol and hybrid versions are not yet fully detailed, they are expected to share this updated look.
2008 to Follow in 2028 with Similar Powertrains
Peugeot’s CEO Alain Favey confirmed that the 2008 SUV’s next generation will use the same STLA One platform as the 208. Scheduled for launch in 2028, the 2008 will continue to offer petrol and hybrid versions.
It is expected to use the new 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine unveiled in May. This unit produces about 100 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque and is likely to power the entry-level versions of the 2008 and possibly the 208 as well.
More Models and Group-Wide Implications
Beyond the 208 and 2008, Peugeot plans to introduce a total of seven new models by 2030. This includes multiple variants of the 308, such as a hatchback and a station wagon, and the 408, which will also utilize the STLA One platform.
Being one of Stellantis’ four priority brands—alongside FIAT, Jeep, and RAM—Peugeot’s developments will influence future models from other group marques. The forthcoming vehicles will incorporate Stellantis’s STLA Brain electronic architecture, aligning with the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) concept.
For example, platforms developed from the 208 and 2008 may underpin related models like the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Opel Frontera, both part of Stellantis’s broader portfolio.
FIAT is focusing more on compact urban mobility, as shown by its plans for the Multiplan, a small electric vehicle designed for city use.
