Nissan has launched a new Leaf Nismo in Japan that adds a sportier look and upgraded suspension but keeps the same power as the standard Leaf. The top Leaf model features a more aggressive body kit and exclusive wheels, but the electric motor remains unchanged.
Sporty Design Focused on Aerodynamics
The Leaf Nismo stands out with a beefier body kit, including an extended ducktail spoiler and red accents paired with Nismo badges. Unlike higher Leaf trims, it does not get the distinctive Z-style taillights but instead keeps the basic ones from the standard model. The custom 19-inch Enkei wheels come only on this version.
These styling changes reportedly help improve aerodynamics by reducing drag and adding downforce, making the upgrades more than just cosmetic.
Upgraded Suspension but Same Electric Motor
Underneath, the Leaf Nismo borrows swing valve shock absorbers from the X-Trail Nismo, adds updated springs and stabilizers, and revises some suspension bushes. Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires in size 235/45 R19 provide better grip. The car’s Sport mode is also tuned for a sharper throttle response.
Despite these handling upgrades, Nissan has not increased the Leaf’s power. The Nismo uses the familiar front electric motor with outputs of either 174 hp or 214 hp depending on the battery. Weight ranges from about 1,820 kg with the 52 kWh battery to 1,920 kg with the 75 kWh option. Optional Recaro seats reduce weight slightly but are only available with the larger battery pack.
Availability and Pricing in Japan
The Leaf Nismo is on sale now in Japan. It starts at 6,601,100 yen (around $40,500) with the smaller battery, and costs 6,952,000 yen ($42,600) for the bigger battery version. Adding the Recaro seats lifts the price to 7,227,000 yen ($44,300).
Nissan has not yet confirmed plans to release the Leaf Nismo outside Japan, but with a broader Nismo expansion underway, the model could appear in other markets eventually.
