New BMW M3 Electric Revealed in Spy Photos at Nürburgring

The upcoming BMW M3 electric is showing more details as it nears launch. Recent spy photos from Nürburgring reveal a bold and sporty electric sedan with less camouflage than before. BMW insiders stress confidence in the new model despite skepticism from some experts, who have yet to test the car.

Sharper Look with Less Camouflage

The latest photos reveal much of the M3 electric’s design. The front features headlights that remain on, but daytime running lights are off, hinting at a possible yellow lighting option. The front bumper design is still mostly hidden, but the hood shows a distinctive horizontal vent.

Other visible details include:

  • More defined side skirts
  • Large alloy wheels, 20 or 21 inches, with perforated brake discs
  • A prominent rear diffuser inspired by motorsport
  • A split thin spoiler on the trunk lid with the M3 badge
  • Roof panel camouflaged but expected to be a linen-finish option rather than panoramic glass

Powertrain and Performance

The BMW M3 electric will use four electric motors, one at each wheel. The rear motors can produce up to 560 kW (about 750 hp), while the front motors offer around 480 kW (650 hp). However, BMW will not combine these figures into a total output of 1,400 hp as some may expect. The realistic total power will be significantly lower.

The car will have a lithium-ion battery pack of over 100 kWh, with an expected range exceeding 600 kilometers. The rear axle will handle normal driving, with the front axle activating when more power is needed.

Interior and Features

Inside, the M3 electric promises sportier seats and upscale materials, including Alcantara and linen accents, replacing carbon fiber for a refined feel. The dashboard uses BMW’s current design with a panoramic instrument cluster illuminated in BMW M colors. The central touchscreen measures 17.9 inches.

Launch Timing

BMW plans to officially reveal the new M3 electric before 2027. Customers can expect to buy it by early summer next year.

Why It Matters

This new BMW M3 electric signals a significant step in high-performance electric vehicles. It combines traditional BMW sporty design with cutting-edge electric technology, addressing doubts about electric sports cars’ capabilities. The M3 electric could set new standards for electric sedans on and off the track.
