Mercedes-AMG has officially introduced its first full-size electric SUV, the 2028 AMG GT SUV, delivering impressive power of up to 1,153 horsepower. This model brings AMG’s sporty character into the electric SUV market with three versions, advanced battery technology, and cutting-edge features.
Three Versions with Powerful Electric Motors
The new AMG GT SUV will launch in three trims: GT53, GT55, and GT63. The GT55 and GT63 models use a three-motor setup—one motor at the front and two at the rear. This layout allows the front motor to shut off when not needed to save energy and activate for extra power or grip. The GT53 has a simpler design with two motors, one on each axle, plus a two-speed rear transmission aimed at combining quick acceleration with efficient highway driving.
All versions feature AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The top two trims can also deliver power selectively to individual rear wheels for improved handling and traction.

High-Speed Charging and Extended Range
The GT SUV uses an 800-volt electrical architecture for ultra-fast DC charging. The GT55 and GT63 can charge at rates up to 710 kilowatts, while the GT53 maxes out at 600 kilowatts. According to Mercedes, the GT53 can gain around 236 miles of WLTP range in just 10 minutes of charging, and the higher trims can add about 280 miles in the same time.
The top GT63’s expected WLTP range falls between 385 and 435 miles, depending on the setup. The EPA range for the US market hasn’t been announced yet, so those figures may vary once final testing is complete.

Dynamic Handling with New Suspension Technology
To improve driving dynamics, the SUV introduces AMG’s Active Ride Control+ suspension, standard on the GT63 and optional on the GT55. This system uses hydraulic dampers combined with adjustable air springs to control body motion without traditional anti-roll bars. It helps reduce body roll, nose dive, and body lift for better cornering and overall comfort.
The GT63 also includes the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which offers three rotary controls for adjusting motor response, handling, and traction. This package is optional on the GT55.

AMG-Style Driving Experience
Mercedes adds engine sound simulations to give the electric SUV a familiar AMG feel. The GT55 and GT63 simulate a V8 engine, while the GT53 mimics a six-cylinder sound. These sounds change with acceleration and driving style, with steering-wheel paddles allowing drivers to ‘shift’ gears. The system also includes seat vibrations and a dedicated display to recreate traditional AMG driving sensations.

Sporty Design and High-Tech Cabin
The AMG GT SUV shares a design language with the AMG GT sedan but in a larger SUV body. It features a sharp roofline, wide stance, muscular arches, frameless windows, and distinctive six-circle rear lights. Active aerodynamics include movable front louvers and an automatic rear spoiler on the GT55 and GT63 to enhance performance and efficiency.
Inside, the cabin is driver-focused with large digital displays: a 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 14.0-inch central touchscreen. The front passenger can have an optional 14.0-inch display. The rear seat accommodates three passengers and folds down for cargo flexibility. A panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity adds to the cabin’s versatility.
Storage includes 21.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats plus 2.8 cubic feet in a front trunk.

Launch and Pricing Details
The AMG GT SUV is expected to reach U.S. dealerships in summer 2027. Mercedes has not yet revealed pricing or EPA-certified range estimates. More information should come closer to the SUV’s launch.
