Jeep is working with Chinese automaker Dongfeng to create a new, larger SUV for the European market. This upcoming model will sit above the Jeep Compass and compete in the important D-SUV segment, marking a significant step in Jeep’s European lineup expansion.
A New European SUV Born from Jeep-Dongfeng Partnership
Jeep recently confirmed its collaboration with Dongfeng as part of Stellantis’ strategy to strengthen ties in China. This partnership aims to bring a new 4×4 SUV to Europe, expanding Jeep’s presence beyond its current best-seller, the Jeep Avenger.
The new SUV will be bigger than the Compass and serve as a “big brother” model, linking the Compass’s size and style to the upcoming Jeep Recon, which is expected soon. While Jeep will handle the design, the SUV will draw on the brand’s long 4×4 experience, including all-wheel drive and solid off-road ability.

What We Know About the Upcoming Jeep SUV
The project is set to deliver a hybrid plug-in version, rather than a fully electric model, although no specific technical details or powertrain figures have been revealed yet. The launch is anticipated around 2028, giving the Jeep-Dongfeng SUV enough time for development before hitting European roads.
Production will likely take place in China, at Dongfeng’s Wuhan factory. This confirms Jeep’s increasing reliance on Chinese manufacturing and technology partnerships for its future European lineup.

Jeep’s European Range Will Grow by 2030
By 2030, Jeep plans to offer six different models in Europe, and this new SUV will be a key part of the brand’s product expansion on the continent. Bringing a D-segment 4×4 to Europe fills a gap between smaller SUVs like the Compass and larger, upcoming models such as the Recon.
Though the new SUV’s name and full specifications remain under wraps, Jeep assures it will maintain the brand’s signature 4×4 capability and rugged appeal.
