Hyundai has revealed more details about the fifth-generation Tucson SUV, set to debut in South Korea this October. The new model features a sharper, more angular design and introduces a new hybrid version with 245 horsepower. European customers can expect the updated Tucson to arrive sometime in 2027.
Sharper Exterior and Larger Dimensions in South Korea
The latest Tucson ditches the softer styling of the current model for a bold, angular look. The front features vertical LED daytime running lights shaped like an “H,” paired with a wider, minimal grille linked by a thin light strip. The side profile shows stronger character lines and more pronounced wheel arches, fitting wheels of at least 17 inches.
Aerodynamics have been improved with active front air flaps and a rear spoiler. The rear end sports 3D prism-style taillights that change their pattern when illuminated.
The South Korean version is larger than before, measuring 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm—slightly bigger than the previous generation. This increase adds nearly 30 mm of rear headroom and allows for a wider opening door in the back.
Hyundai also continues to develop the Tucson XRT variant for the US market, featuring a more rugged, off-road-inspired look with special tires, a darkened grille, strong protective trims, and carbon-texture moldings. This version is not confirmed for Europe.
Advanced Interior Tech with Pleos Connect
Inside, the new Tucson introduces Hyundai’s Pleos Connect software system, marking the brand’s step towards becoming more than just a carmaker. The dashboard features a two-tier design with a digital instrument cluster and a large central screen available in 12.9 or 17 inches.
Unlike some competitors, Hyundai retains physical buttons for climate and audio controls, enhancing ease of use. The new AI assistant called “Gleo” supports multi-turn conversations, route coordination, and climate control management. Additionally, the Pleos App Market allows downloading apps like music streaming, video, and games.
Practical touches include a floating center console with hidden storage, two wireless chargers, high-power USB-C ports, coolable cup holders, manual sunshades in the rear, and an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system. Safety equipment is extensive, featuring redundant door unlocking, rear memory assist for reversing, panoramic camera views, 9 airbags, and intelligent parking assistance.
One notable new safety feature is the pedal malfunction assistant, which detects sudden accelerator presses at low speeds or near obstacles and responds by limiting engine torque and activating autonomous braking. Other innovations include a GPS-based driving guide that improves energy recovery and a parking mode that keeps the climate and infotainment system running on the hybrid battery without the engine on.
Powertrain Options Confirmed for South Korea
Hyundai has confirmed two powertrains for the South Korean market so far. Buyers can choose a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 193 hp linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, a 245 hp hybrid combines the same 1.6-liter turbo engine with Hyundai’s hybrid system. This hybrid manages an average fuel consumption of 5.7 l/100 km under the WLTP cycle.
While exact European engine options are still unconfirmed, the 245 hp hybrid is expected to be part of the lineup when the Tucson arrives there.
Launch Plans and Market Availability
Hyundai will reveal pricing and trim details for South Korea this October. The new Tucson will launch in Europe and the US sometime after that, though the exact timing remains unclear. Expectations are that the model will go on sale in Spain and other European countries in 2027.
The 2027 Tucson represents a clear step forward with its sharper look, advanced technology, and a strong new hybrid variant.
