Hyundai is preparing to grow its N performance brand significantly by 2030. Among the new models in development, a rear-wheel-drive car stands out as a key addition. This move marks an important shift for Hyundai, which currently focuses on front-wheel and all-wheel-drive models.
An Ambitious Expansion of the N Range
At a recent investor event, Hyundai confirmed plans to increase its N lineup from five to more than seven models by the end of this decade. This growth aims to boost annual N sales from around 20,000 units in 2025 to 100,000 by 2030.
One highlight is a new front-engine car built on a rear-wheel-drive platform with all-wheel-drive as an option. While Hyundai hasn’t revealed the powertrain, the brand is expected to stick with internal combustion engines or possibly a plug-in hybrid setup. This new model could cover about 22 percent of Hyundai N’s market share, indicating high sales potential.

More Than Just a Rear-Wheel-Drive Model
Besides the rumored rear-wheel-drive performance car, Hyundai also plans to introduce an entry-level front-wheel-drive crossover, which may revive the Kona N nameplate. This smaller model could add five percentage points to market coverage.
The eventual goal is to extend Hyundai N’s presence to over 40 global markets while doubling market coverage from 30 percent to more than 60 percent by 2030.

Long-Term Prospects and Unconfirmed Projects
Hyundai is also exploring additional performance vehicles, including a compact electric N model possibly called the Ioniq 3 N. At the premium end, there may be plans for a luxury SUV, a high-end electric vehicle, and a grand touring sports car. These models are likely for the next decade rather than the immediate future.
Among the speculative projects, enthusiasts have kept an eye on the N Vision 74, a wedge-shaped supercar. Hyundai has not confirmed its status yet.
What This Means for Hyundai’s Performance Lineup
The upcoming rear-wheel-drive N car would fill a gap Hyundai has lacked so far, offering a more traditional performance driving experience preferred by many fans. Although details are limited, this development suggests Hyundai is serious about competing with established brands like BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi Sport.
Further information on engine choices, body style, and launch timing will come in the future, but the expansion hints at a much broader and more diverse Hyundai N lineup within the next several years.
