Google has finished rolling out its Gemini AI assistant across all Android Auto and Google-built car systems. Now, the company is introducing a new feature called Personal Intelligence, designed to make Gemini more useful by allowing it to access several Google apps on your phone.
How Personal Intelligence Works with Gemini
Personal Intelligence lets Gemini connect with apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Photos. By accessing these, Gemini can offer more personalized help. For example, it can check your emails to find flight details or see your calendar to remind you of upcoming appointments—all without needing you to provide specific information.
This feature allows you to speak to Gemini naturally. If it needs more details to complete your request, Gemini will ask you directly.

Examples of New Capabilities
The new feature can handle complex requests using data from multiple apps. You could ask Gemini to find a coffee shop shown in a photo your friend sent you and then set navigation to that place. Gemini would open your Google Photos, identify the coffee shop in the image, determine the location, and launch Google Maps with directions.
Additionally, Gemini can keep track of past conversations, letting you continue a request from earlier days. This helps keep your interactions smooth as you drive.

User Control and Privacy
Google emphasizes that users remain in control of what data Gemini can access. Personal Intelligence is off by default and must be enabled by the user. You can turn it off anytime in the Gemini settings. The system only shares personal information when your phone is connected to the car, which adds a layer of security.
Currently, Personal Intelligence is available only to users who are 18 years or older and uses personal Google accounts. Business or education accounts do not support this feature.

Availability and Compatibility
The update with Personal Intelligence is already reaching Android Auto users and will arrive in cars with Google built-in in early 2027. Google hasn’t tied the release to a specific Android Auto app version but advises keeping the app updated to get the latest improvements.
For now, you can still use Gemini without enabling Personal Intelligence, so it’s optional rather than mandatory.
