Genesis is preparing to launch its new large electric SUV, the GV90, targeting luxury rivals like Bentley with strong power and a big battery. New spy photos and leaked information reveal key specs while the official debut is planned soon.
Spotted Near Production with Advanced Features
The GV90 prototype was recently seen undergoing final testing, focusing on comfort systems and electric powertrain performance. The SUV keeps its modern design hidden but is expected to carry the futuristic style Genesis previewed with its Neolum concept.
While the prototype wears 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in wide 285mm tires, the production model will offer up to 24-inch wheels. Genesis confirmed seating configurations of six and seven seats to compete with large luxury SUVs like those from Mercedes, Cadillac, and Range Rover.
Strong Powertrain and Big Battery Details
Leaked certification documents suggest the GV90 will have a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive. The front motor is said to produce 326 horsepower and the rear 340 horsepower. Combined, that gives the SUV a hefty 666 horsepower output—ample for a vehicle that weighs over 3,000 kilograms and measures more than five meters long.
Underneath, it uses an 800-volt electrical architecture with a total battery size of 123.5 kWh, of which 115 kWh is usable. This high usable capacity rate of 93% is a strong technical point.
Range Figures and Real-World Expectations
Despite the large battery, the officially certified South Korean MOTIE range is 481 kilometres combined, with 503 km for city driving and 453 km on highways. In colder conditions, range drops to 431 km. These figures may seem modest for such a big battery, but the MOTIE testing cycle is known to be more demanding than Europe’s WLTP standard by about 21% based on comparisons with other Hyundai models.
Applying this difference, the GV90’s WLTP range in Europe could be estimated between 575 and 585 kilometres. This would place it competitively among luxury electric SUVs, offering significant range for its size and power.
Genesis is expected to officially reveal the GV90 in early September, marking its entrance into the ultra-premium electric SUV segment. This positions the GV90 as a strong contender, joining well-established competitors in a market for exclusive, spacious electric SUVs.
