Ferrari is developing a new convertible version of its exclusive F80 hypercar, known as the F80 Aperta. A prototype of this roofless model has been spotted testing near the Ferrari factory in Maranello, signaling that the Italian brand is preparing a highly limited release.
Convertible Design Features Differ from Typical Cabriolets
The F80 Aperta prototype shows a removable roof section rather than a fully open convertible style. The design resembles a Targa, where only the roof panel above the passenger compartment is detachable. The camouflage on the roof area is noticeably heavier, suggesting significant structural changes compared to the coupe version.
Because removing the roof reduces body rigidity, Ferrari has added reinforcements around the windshield frame and rear structure. These modifications are important to maintain stiffness given the car’s carbon-fiber monocoque chassis. The prototype does not reveal whether the roof panel is rigid or fabric, but the black covering is tape, not a soft top.
Maintaining Performance and Rarity
The F80 Aperta will keep the same hybrid powertrain as the coupe, featuring a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 combined with three electric motors for a total output of 1,265 horsepower. This aligns with Ferrari’s approach to their flagship hypercars, focusing on high performance alongside exclusivity.
Production of the coupe is limited to 799 units. The Aperta version is expected to be even rarer, with several hundred fewer units planned, pushing its price close to €4 million—higher than the coupe’s €3.6 million starting cost.
Historically, Ferrari has offered variable roof solutions on its special models. For example, the LaFerrari Aperta included both carbon-fiber and fabric roof options, manually removable by the owner without hydraulic systems. The same approach might appear here, giving customers the choice between a light rigid panel and a fabric roof.
The F80 Aperta is likely part of Ferrari’s 80th-anniversary celebrations in 2027, making it a fitting tribute to the brand’s legacy with an ultra-exclusive, open-top hypercar.
