Cadillac is preparing a new generation of its CT5 sedan lineup, including the high-performance CT5-V Blackwing. The new models are expected to arrive as 2028 model years, with production starting before the end of 2027.
New CT5 to Share Updated Alpha Platform
The upcoming CT5 will be built on an updated version of General Motors’ Alpha 2-2 architecture. This platform is reportedly the same one planned for the next Chevrolet Camaro, suggesting improved handling and structural updates over the current model.
CT5-V Blackwing Set to Return with Powerful V8
The current CT5-V Blackwing, known for its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 668 horsepower, is expected to be replaced by a new-generation model. While details are still limited, the new Blackwing will likely continue focusing on rear-wheel-drive performance. The current model offers a rare six-speed manual transmission option alongside a ten-speed automatic, but it remains uncertain if the manual will be carried over.
Current CT5 and Blackwing Remain Available Until 2026
The first-generation CT5-V Blackwing has been on sale since 2021 and is planned to end production by late 2026. The full CT5 range, including the regular CT5-V which features a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 starting around $58,300, will also conclude then. Cadillac will discontinue the smaller CT4 in North America but intends to keep the CT5 line going with this new generation.
Production and Future Outlook
The 2028 CT5 and CT5-V Blackwing are expected to start production at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan before the end of 2027. Cadillac’s recent promotional activities, including videos showing their Formula 1 drivers testing the current CT5, hint at the brand’s continued commitment to the model.
More technical and design details are likely to emerge closer to the official launch.
