BMW iX4 2027 Spotted Testing at Nürburgring, Poised to Offer More Than Just a Sportier iX3

The upcoming BMW iX4 2027 has taken a major step forward in its development. Recently seen pushing hard on the demanding Nürburgring track, this sporty electric SUV is shaping up to be much more than a simple iX3 with a different body style. Early spy photos reveal key design updates and hints of strong performance potential.

Sportier Design and Dynamic Testing

The new BMW iX4 features a more athletic profile compared to the previous X4, with a slightly longer body and a larger rear window area. Its Hofmeister kink remains hidden under cover, but the standard panoramic roof is clearly visible. M Sport blue brake calipers and low-profile tires on alloy wheels hint at the car’s sporty intentions. The rear light signature takes on a different “L” shape, distinct from the iX3, while the front end design is expected to be similar to its sibling.

Advanced Interior with High-End Features

Inside, the iX4 is expected to share the iX3’s layout, including a wide dashboard and a large 17.9-inch central touchscreen. Unlike the new X5, however, the iX4 may not feature the additional passenger-side screen. Buyers can expect a comprehensive range of comfort options, connectivity features, and driving aids, as well as diverse personalization choices to enhance exclusivity.

Powertrain and Performance Expectations

The new iX4 will target a more premium segment than the iX3, focusing exclusively on twin-motor all-wheel-drive versions with BMW’s xDrive system. It will likely launch shortly after summer 2024 with the 50 xDrive variant producing around 469 horsepower. Additional variants, including the 40 xDrive and a sporty M60 model, are expected in 2027. All models will use a 108 kWh NMC battery, aiming to match or exceed the iX3’s maximum range of roughly 800 kilometers under ideal conditions.

Why the BMW iX4 Matters

The BMW iX4 represents more than a new body style in the electric SUV lineup. Its focus on sporty dynamics, premium features, and powerful electric drivetrains positions it as a strong contender in the growing market for performance electric SUVs. With production planned through 2028, it aims to build on the iX3’s success by offering drivers a sharper, more exclusive option.
