Bentley’s Bentayga X, once presented as a concept for feedback, now appears set for production. Spy photos reveal a prototype with clear off-road features, suggesting Bentley is preparing a more rugged version of its luxury SUV for launch in the near future.
Distinct Off-Road Features Stand Out
The prototype caught on camera shows striking updates compared to current Bentayga models. The most obvious are the chunky off-road tires wrapped around black 22-inch forged alloy wheels, suited for rough terrain rather than typical sporty driving.
The SUV’s ground clearance has been increased by 55 millimeters, reaching a total ride height of 310 millimeters. Beneath the front bumper, a satin-finished aluminium skid plate protects the underbody. The side steps are also redesigned, complementing the tougher look.
The entire body is painted black, including the badges, and is based on the existing Bentayga Speed model. This dark finish is not camouflaged but part of the prototype’s styling to highlight its rugged character.

Chassis and Powertrain Adjustments Support Off-Road Use
Bentley has widened the front and rear wheel arches by up to 40 millimeters, allowing for greater suspension travel and a more aggressive stance. According to Bentley’s earlier statements, this upgraded chassis can handle water crossings with a depth of up to 550 millimeters.
Under the hood, the Bentayga X features the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, producing up to 650 horsepower. It uses permanent all-wheel drive paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV’s air suspension benefits from the Dynamic Ride system, which uses 48-volt electric motors to control body roll.

Possible Production Plans and Market Timing
Bentley has remained silent on whether the Bentayga X will enter production. However, dealer feedback, especially in North America, suggests strong interest. Bentley’s regional head Michael Rocco told Motor1 that dealers have requested this model for months, positioning it as a limited-production, high-performance option similar to Bentley’s Supersports models.
The Bentayga X fits well into Bentley’s timeline, as the current Bentayga has been on sale for nearly ten years, initially launching at the Geneva Motor Show. A tougher off-road variant could serve as a final halo model before the next-generation Bentayga arrives.
This rugged approach also echoes limited-run luxury off-road models like the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato and Porsche 911 Dakar, which sold out quickly despite being niche products.
If launched, the Bentayga X would join this rare group as a luxury SUV with genuine off-road capabilities, available in 2027 or shortly after.
