Audi’s electric S6 Avant, once thought canceled, has resurfaced on German roads, showing off sportier styling and hints of increased power. This prototype, spotted testing near the Nürburgring, suggests the model will follow a fresh naming approach instead of the usual RS badge.
Sportier Design Elements Suggest Performance Focus
The prototype wears a mix of camouflage and metallic grey paint. Notable visual upgrades include redesigned air intakes in the front bumper and a larger front spoiler. Its split headlights remain unchanged, but the Singleframe grille area is covered with vinyl, hinting at a design inspired by the recently launched A2 e-tron.
Front fenders receive subtle revisions, including vertical slits near the doors that imply a slightly wider track, a feature borrowed from Audi’s high-performance RS models. Along the sides, sharper side skirts and new six-double-spoke alloy wheels are visible, though their size remains hidden. The low-profile Pirelli P Zero tires add to the aggressive stance.
At the rear, the roof spoiler is sleeker, and the bumper sports a larger diffuser, emphasizing the car’s sporty intentions while maintaining its Avant (wagon) practicality.

Performance and Power Targets Remain Impressive
The S6 Avant e-tron Performance appears to be based on the existing S6 e-tron, which has two electric motors delivering 551 hp. This setup currently enables a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h, along with a range of about 640 kilometres.
The “Performance” badge suggests a boost over this output, with estimates pointing toward a ceiling near 800 hp. This level would put it above the plug-in hybrid RS 6, which is expected to develop around 750 hp. However, the car is not expected to reach the extreme output of the RS e-tron GT’s 923 hp, nor will it carry the RS badge in its production form.

Project Status and Future Timing
Audi had reportedly paused the RS 6 e-tron’s development due to limited demand for such high-priced electric performance wagons. Instead, the brand focuses on launching a new plug-in hybrid RS 6 model in 2027. Despite this, the electric S6 Avant prototype’s return suggests Audi may still bring an all-electric high-performance Avant to market, though potentially under a different sub-brand name.
With development continuing and these recent sightings, the electric S6 Avant e-tron Performance could arrive by 2028, offering an electric alternative in the sporty wagon segment with strong power and updated styling.
