New BMW ALPINA 7 Spied with Gasoline Engine Ahead of 2027 Launch

BMW has started testing the new ALPINA 7, a luxury sedan positioned just below Rolls-Royce in the brand hierarchy. A prototype powered by a gasoline engine was recently spotted leaving BMW M’s Nürburgring facilities. This model is expected to arrive in 2027 as a refined alternative to the more aggressively focused BMW M versions.

Distinctive Design Highlights

The prototype of the 2028 ALPINA 7 features a sharply redesigned front end that looks more aggressive but avoids excessive sportiness. It has slim daytime running lights with Swarovski crystals along the edge of the hood—a new lighting signature exclusive to ALPINA. The amber LED on the left side functions as a turn signal, blinking, while the right side light remains steady, setting it apart from current 7 Series models.

The front bumper grille also differs significantly from the regular 7 Series, presenting trapezoidal shapes similar to those seen on the electric i7 ALPINA prototype tested earlier this year. Unlike the multi-spoke wheels used on the i7, the gasoline-powered ALPINA 7 prototype is equipped with unique wheels not typically associated with ALPINA, which might cause some confusion at first glance.

At the rear, a signature feature comes through clearly: four oval exhaust tips, a longstanding ALPINA design trait absent from standard 7 Series cars.

Balanced Sportiness and Luxury

The ALPINA 7 aims to blend sporty performance with comfort rather than chasing the pure racing character of BMW M models. It will be a full-size sedan offering rear seating for two, with electrically adjustable individual seats and extensive luxury features designed to rival those in Rolls-Royce vehicles. This focus on passenger comfort is a key part of the car’s appeal.

Interestingly, the ALPINA 7 is not just an electric model. It will also come with two gasoline engine options. One is a powerful 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, similar to the one in the M760, delivering around 550 horsepower. The other is a more accessible 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with roughly 400 horsepower from the 740i. Both models will feature all-wheel drive (xDrive).

Launch Plans and Pricing Outlook

Although the ALPINA 7 has just begun real-world testing, BMW plans a formal debut in spring 2027, with sales starting by late summer. Pricing is expected to start slightly above €200,000 for the entry-level gasoline model, though BMW has not officially confirmed prices yet.

This new ALPINA 7 is set to reinforce the exclusivity and comfort that this niche brand is known for, now supported by BMW’s expertise in combining luxury with performance.
