Renault Updates Diesel Trafic While Preparing New Electric Version for 2027

Renault is moving forward with two versions of its Trafic van: a fully new electric model due in early 2027 and an updated diesel version that will continue alongside it. Rather than retiring the diesel Trafic, Renault has given it a quiet refresh, focusing on interior tech and small exterior tweaks without major changes to its look.

Diesel Trafic Gets a Subtle Refresh

Contrary to earlier spy photo hints suggesting bigger changes, the updated diesel Trafic retains much of its current design. The front grille, headlights, and rear remain untouched. The main visible difference lies in the wheels, which now feature 17-inch steel rims with aerodynamic hubcaps—available in grey as standard from mid-range trims, with optional black or silver finishes.

Renault’s decision to keep the diesel van largely the same suggests the model still has life in the market, especially as the company focuses its main efforts on the upcoming electric Trafic.

Interior Upgrades Focus on Technology and Comfort

More noticeable updates appear inside. The refreshed Trafic features a new 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system called “OpenR Link,” supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are two versions of this system, one with navigation now using advanced HERE maps instead of TomTom.

For models with second or third-row seating, Renault has added four USB-C ports per row, delivering charging power up to 80 watts. LED ambient lighting is now standard both inside the cabin and in the load area. Additionally, the updated steering wheel sports the Renault badge and links to a new power steering system designed to improve comfort and precision.

The brakes have been enhanced as well, with larger discs and dual-piston front calipers offering stronger stopping power without requiring greater pedal effort.

Diesel Powertrain Remains Unchanged for Now

The traditional 2.0-liter Blue dCi diesel engine continues in the refreshed Trafic. It will be available in a base 110 horsepower manual version and a 130 horsepower automatic variant with a nine-speed EDC gearbox. Both short and long wheelbases remain on offer.

Pricing, full trim details, and exact launch dates for the revised diesel Trafic in Spain have yet to be revealed. While the diesel option will likely see its range slimmed down when the electric Trafic arrives, Renault aims to cover different customer preferences by offering both powertrains.

Electric Trafic Arrives in 2027

The brand-new Renault Trafic E-Tech fully electric van is scheduled for release in January 2027. This model represents a major shift and shares no design elements with the diesel Trafic. Renault hopes the electric version will capture a growing share of commercial vehicle sales as demand for electric vans rises.

For now, the diesel Trafic remains relevant with its updated features. This dual approach lets Renault cater to both traditional diesel users and those ready to switch to electric.

More details on pricing and specifications for both versions are expected closer to their respective launch dates.
