Renault is preparing a mid-cycle update for the third-generation Kangoo, its compact van that competes with models like the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter. Spy photos have revealed a test prototype running with heavy camouflage on the front, signaling notable design changes ahead for the 2027 model.
Camouflage Highlights Front-End Changes
The photographed Kangoo prototype shows that most of the updates will focus on the front section. While the rear remains nearly untouched, the refreshed van is expected to receive new headlights, a redesigned grille, and a revised front bumper. The rear lights appear to keep their overall shape but will likely get a updated light signature.
Although the prototype shown is a cargo van version, the planned facelift will cover the entire Kangoo lineup. This includes the passenger-oriented Kangoo Combi and the longer seven-seat Grand Kangoo variant introduced three years ago.
Powertrain Updates Aim to Boost Efficiency
The current Kangoo offers gasoline, diesel, and electric powertrains. Renault’s update will mainly refine the efficiency of the combustion engines. The electric Kangoo E-Tech, powered by a 45 kWh NMC battery and a 90 kW (122 hp) motor, currently states a WLTP range close to 300 km. Reports suggest changes to the electric drivetrain—especially the battery package—to improve range and keep pace with upcoming electric vans from Stellantis.
Expected Arrival Around Early 2027
With the third-generation Kangoo now over five years old, this facelift is a timely refresh. Renault reportedly aims to launch the updated Kangoo to European dealers by the first half of 2027, making it one of its key releases for that year.
