Dacia has officially unveiled the 2027 model of its popular Spring electric car. The second-generation Spring is a completely new vehicle that sheds its previous SUV style for a more practical, city-focused design. Built on a new platform, this model offers a larger body, updated technology, and will be produced in Europe for the first time.
A Shift from SUV to Urban Hatchback
The new Spring moves away from the compact SUV look of its predecessor and instead embraces a typical urban hatchback shape. It measures 3.85 meters long—around 15 centimeters longer than before—and 1.74 meters wide, making it closer in size to small cars like the Suzuki Swift. Despite losing the SUV badge, it still features rugged black plastic protectors on its bumpers, designed to stand up better to scratches and wear.
Dacia’s new design language is clean and geometric, with simple, functional lines. One notable styling element is a black band that runs from the front headlights to the rear taillights, including the brand’s signature lighting pattern. The new Spring is available in just four colors, reflecting Dacia’s focus on simplicity and affordable practicality.
More Space and Updated Interior Features
Inside, the Spring has been redesigned for greater comfort and modern connectivity. It now seats four and offers a digital instrument cluster alongside a 10.1-inch touchscreen running the Media Nav Live infotainment system. This system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
One unique feature for this category is the small front trunk (“frunk”) with an 18-liter capacity. This space is useful for storing charging cables or other small items. The charging port has also moved, now located on the right front wing rather than the front of the car.
Powertrain and Range Details
The Spring 2027 is powered by an electric motor producing 60 kW (80 hp) and 175 Nm of torque. It uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a usable capacity of 27.5 kWh. According to Dacia, this setup delivers a WLTP range of up to 250 kilometers.
The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. Charging options include an integrated AC charger of 6.6 kW as standard, with an optional upgrade to 11 kW AC and a 50 kW DC fast charger. Fast charging can refill the battery from 15% to 80% in about 28 minutes using the 50 kW DC charger.
There is also an optional “Charge” package featuring Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. This allows the battery to power external devices, such as an electric bike or small appliances.
European Production and Pricing
Unlike the first generation, which was built in China, the new Spring will be manufactured in Europe at Renault’s plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. This plant also produces the Renault Twingo.
Dacia plans to officially open orders before the end of 2026, with deliveries starting in early 2027. All versions of the new Spring will cost under €20,000 before any government subsidies, maintaining its position as one of Europe’s most affordable electric cars. With incentives, the entry-level model could drop below €15,000.
The new Spring will debut publicly at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026.
