Toyota grabbed the most electric vehicle (EV) rebate claims in Canada during June under the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP). Despite this, the Chevrolet Bolt was the most claimed model, showing a strong foothold for General Motors in the market. Tesla also saw a notable rebound in rebate claims last month.
Toyota Tops Brand Rankings with Nearly 3,000 Claims
According to data from Transport Canada, Toyota secured 2,805 EVAP rebate claims in June, more than any other brand. Chevrolet and Kia followed with 1,838 and 1,321 claims respectively. Toyota’s lineup includes both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which helped it maintain this lead during the fourth full month of the EVAP.
The federal EVAP provides up to $5,000 off battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and $2,500 off plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), with eligibility limited to zero-emission vehicles priced at $50,000 or less before delivery fees.

Chevrolet Bolt Leads Among Individual Models
While Toyota dominated at the brand level, the Chevrolet Bolt emerged as the most popular model for rebates. The Bolt received 1,152 claims in June, outpacing Toyota’s bZ model and Prius, which had 871 and 788 claims respectively. This indicates strong consumer demand for the Bolt despite stiff competition.
Tesla also returned to the rebate rankings with its Model Y earning 576 claims in June. Although Tesla had been the leader in Canada’s previous ZEV rebate program, which ended in 2025, it currently trails behind under the EVAP.
Regional Distribution and Overall Trends
Canada saw just over 10,000 EV rebate claims in June, a figure similar to May’s totals, showing a steady demand for electric vehicles supported by the subsidy. Quebec led all provinces with 5,041 claims—close to half the national total. Ontario and British Columbia held the second and third positions with 2,248 and 1,754 claims respectively.
Since EVAP’s return in February, Canada’s government has awarded nearly $191 million in incentives, underscoring the country’s ongoing support for EV adoption.
More details on rebate trends and model popularity are expected as the program continues through 2026.
