Navitel has addressed an issue affecting Android Auto users on its widescreen head units. After about a month of reports about distorted screen displays, the company released a firmware update that corrects the aspect ratio problem.
Aspect Ratio Bug Affected Multiple Models
The glitch first appeared in July when users noticed that Android Auto’s display on Navitel units was stretched horizontally. This caused icons to appear oval instead of round and made text blurry and difficult to read. Although initially thought to be limited to the DS810 model, the issue soon was reported on other Navitel head units as well.
Users experienced the problem regardless of their Android phone model, with reports coming from Samsung, Google Pixel, and other devices. Common attempts to fix the issue—such as reinstalling Android Auto or updating apps—did not solve the display distortion.
Firmware Update Requires Manual Installation
Unlike many modern updates that install over the air, this fix requires users to manually update their Navitel head units. Owners need a microSD card reader to download and transfer the firmware files. After loading the update onto the device via the settings menu, the system restarts to apply the correction.
Navitel advises users not to interrupt the update process, as this could damage the head unit. Once updated, Android Auto’s display should return to normal proportions, improving visual clarity and icon shapes.
Keep Android Auto Updated on Your Phone
While this head unit update fixes the screen stretching issue, users should also keep the Android Auto app on their phones current. The latest app version, 17.4, is available on the Google Play Store and includes various improvements. A major update with new features like widget support and YouTube integration is expected later this year.
