Heavily camouflaged prototypes rarely go unnoticed, especially when navigating busy city traffic. Recently, a mysterious Jeep test mule—strongly resembling the Jeep Avenger—was caught on camera roaming the streets of Bursa, Turkey.
The Details Under the Camo
The vehicle is completely wrapped in a disruptive black and grey camouflage pattern accented with striking neon green geometric lines, intended to confuse the eye and hide its exterior updates. Despite the heavy disguise, certain design elements give its identity away. The prominent “Jeep” lettering is visible on the rear hatch, and the signature X-shaped taillight graphics, alongside the distinctive upper DRLs in the front, confirm that this is indeed an Avenger.
The test mule is wearing yellow manufacturer test plates starting with the “16” province code, placing it squarely in Bursa—a major manufacturing and engineering hub for Stellantis and the home of the Tofaş plant.

What is Stellantis Testing?
The exact nature of this test vehicle remains unconfirmed, leaving room for speculation. Given that the Avenger is still relatively fresh on the global market, outfitting a test mule in such heavy, full-body camouflage points to a few distinct possibilities:
- An Early Facelift: This is the most likely scenario. Automakers frequently begin testing mid-cycle facelifts (LCI) early on. The camo suggests we might see updated front and rear bumper designs, tweaked light signatures, or a revised grille.
- New Powertrain Integration: Stellantis could be utilizing the Bursa engineering teams to test a new powertrain configuration—such as a localized hybrid system or an updated EV drivetrain—underneath the current body.
- Platform Calibration: It could also be a chassis testing mule for an upcoming Stellantis sibling vehicle, using the Avenger body as a temporary shell.
What to Expect Next
While it is too early to know exactly what is hiding beneath the wraps, the presence of this prototype confirms that Stellantis is actively working on updates for its popular compact SUV. As development continues, we expect more details to surface regarding what this facelifted or re-engineered Avenger will bring to the market.
