Stellantis is planning a major update for the Jeep Cherokee. The new model, expected to launch in 2029, will be built on the STLA One platform. This is the same platform Peugeot will use for its next 208 and 2008 models starting in 2027 and 2028.
Stellantis’ Flexible Global Platform
The STLA One platform is designed to support a wide range of models across different sizes and segments. Stellantis plans to produce more than 30 vehicles using this architecture by 2035. The platform aims to reduce complexity and improve flexibility in production.
Unlike some global platforms that target worldwide sales, the new Cherokee will remain focused on the North American market. Jeep has not offered the Cherokee in Europe for several years, concentrating instead on the United States, where Stellantis is working to strengthen its presence.


Production and Investment Details for Cherokee
Jeep’s next-generation Cherokee will be assembled at the Belvidere plant in Illinois, about 100 kilometres west of Chicago. Stellantis is investing over 800 million dollars (around 690 million euros) in this facility to prepare for production, including upgrades to painting, body assembly, and stamping processes.
Production of pre-series vehicles is set to begin in the first half of 2028. Customers can expect the new Cherokee to arrive in showrooms during the second half of 2029, following the launch of Peugeot’s 208 and 2008 models that use the same platform.

Broader Impact Within Stellantis
The STLA One platform’s debut in Jeep’s Cherokee shows Stellantis’ push to share technology across its brands. Besides Peugeot’s electric 208 and 2008, the platform might also benefit other brands in the group such as Citroën, DS, Opel, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, Fiat, and Abarth.
At Belvidere, a second, yet unconfirmed, model based on STLA One will also be produced. Its identity has not been disclosed, but there’s speculation it could be linked to Chrysler, which remains a less visible brand in the group’s North American operations.
