Ford Recalls Over 110,000 Vehicles Including Mustang and Mustang Mach-E

Ford has announced two new recalls affecting 110,626 vehicles, including the 2024-2026 Ford Mustang and the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. These recalls address wiper system issues in the Mustang and a potential rear differential problem in the Mach-E.

Mustang Wiper Motor Recall

The larger recall impacts 67,842 Mustangs, including the Mustang GTD variant, from model years 2024 through 2026. The issue involves the windshield wipers possibly operating only on the highest speed setting in cold weather (32°F or below).

  • The problem stems from a programming error where a 32-kilobyte algorithm was mistakenly loaded onto a 16-kilobyte chip in the wiper motor control unit.
  • This causes loss of communication between the wiper motor and steering column module.
  • The result is a non-functional windshield washing system and limited wiper speed control—risky in adverse weather.
  • Ford has received 35 warranty claims but reports no crashes or injuries linked to this issue.
  • The fix involves inspection and replacement of faulty wiper motors.

Mustang Mach-E Rear Differential Recall

The Mustang Mach-E recall covers potential fractures in the rear differential pinion shaft caused by bending fatigue. This defect may cause the vehicle to lose drive power or move unintentionally while parked.

  • Ford’s investigation began after finding a failed pinion shaft on a European 2023 Mach-E during a teardown analysis in March 2026.
  • Six similar failures were found by May 2026, all involving fatigue cracks.
  • Ford identified inconsistencies in part hardness but has not fully determined the root cause.
  • 62 warranty claims have been filed, with no reported accidents or injuries.
  • The fix will include repairing or replacing the rear differential assembly with a stronger pinion shaft.

What This Means for Ford Owners

These recalls are part of Ford’s extensive effort to address ongoing quality issues. So far this year, Ford has issued 56 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles. While this is below last year’s record 153 recalls, it keeps Ford ahead in the number of recalls issued in the industry.

Owners of the affected Mustang and Mustang Mach-E models should stay alert for recall notifications. Addressing these issues quickly is important for safety, especially in winter conditions or in electric vehicle drivability.

Ford expects to begin repairs soon after notifying customers. As always, timely service is key to avoiding trouble on the road.
