BMW X5 Neue Klasse Preview Leaks Reveal a Bold New Design Direction

BMW’s next-generation X5 (G65) is getting closer to its official reveal, and new digital renderings suggest a major design shift inspired by the brand’s upcoming Neue Klasse era.

The new model is expected to debut around 2026–2027 and will replace the current G05 X5 with a more modern, electrified-focused design language.

Neue Klasse Design Comes to the X5

The leaked renderings show a completely reworked front end with a cleaner surface design, slimmer lighting units, and a more vertical kidney grille style.

BMW’s new design language focuses on simplicity and aerodynamics, similar to the iX3-based Neue Klasse concept models.

The X5 is expected to look closer to a “scaled-up iX3,” with smoother lines and fewer traditional design elements.

Interior: Full Digital Shift

Inside, the new X5 is expected to adopt BMW’s latest Panoramic Vision system, which projects key driving information across the base of the windshield. This setup replaces the traditional instrument cluster and reduces physical buttons in favor of a more minimal dashboard design. BMW’s upcoming iDrive X system will also be included, offering a more connected and software-driven cabin experience.

Multiple Powertrains Confirmed

The G65 X5 will continue to offer a wide range of powertrains:

  • Petrol engines
  • Diesel engines
  • Plug-in hybrid versions
  • Fully electric iX5 variant
  • Possible hydrogen fuel-cell model

This makes the new X5 one of BMW’s most flexible platforms yet.

Performance Variants Expected

Reports suggest that the lineup will include:

  • Standard inline-six petrol versions
  • Plug-in hybrid X5 50e
  • Fully electric iX5 60 xDrive with up to ~578 hp
  • Future X5 M performance model

Electric versions are expected to become the performance leaders in the lineup.

Launch Timeline

The new BMW X5 (G65) is expected to enter production in late 2026, with an official global debut likely shortly before that.

Sales should begin in 2027, depending on the market.

A Major Shift for BMW’s Best-Selling SUV

With Neue Klasse design, advanced digital systems, and full electrification options, the next X5 represents one of the biggest generational changes in BMW SUV history.

The model is expected to set the tone for all future BMW SUVs in the coming decade.
