Audi Launches US-Only SQ9 with Powerful 4.0-Litre V8 Engine

Audi has introduced a special SQ9 variant for the US market, equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. This marks a significant upgrade in power compared to the standard Q9 SUV, which features a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6.

V8 Engine Boosts Performance

The SQ9’s 4.0-litre V8 produces 583 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Audi claims this allows the large three-row SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, making it the quickest in its class for three-row SUVs. For comparison, this is a substantial jump in power and speed over the normal Q9.

Sporty Driving Features and Design

This new SQ9 features a rear-biased quattro all-wheel-drive system with an electronically controlled rear differential lock. It comes standard with 22-inch wheels, while 23-inch wheels are available as an option. The suspension system includes air suspension and rear-wheel steering, with an optional sport adaptive air suspension for a sharper driving experience.

Visually, the SQ9 stands out with a redesigned grille that can be illuminated along with the Audi rings, larger wheel arches, a prominent roof spoiler, and quad exhaust outlets. The SUV also debuts Digital Matrix LED headlights in the US, which meet local regulations for glare control—a first in this region. Aluminum trim and carbon fibre accents add to the sporty appeal inside and out.

Interior and Technology

The cabin can be configured to seat six or seven passengers. Standard features include heated Nappa leather seats across all rows and adaptive cruise assist, which supports hands-free driving on highways. The screen and infotainment setup mirror the diesel Q9, accented with S model badges and special trim.

Availability and Pricing

The SQ9 will start arriving in US dealerships later this year. The price begins at around $118,000, distinguishing it clearly from the standard Q9, which starts at about $87,700 in the US.
