Skoda Kodiaq Launches New 160-HP Mild Hybrid Petrol Engine Compliant with Euro 7

Skoda is rolling out a new mild hybrid petrol engine with 160 horsepower in its Kodiaq SUV, designed to meet the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standard. This powertrain upgrade is already available for the Kodiaq in Spain, while the same engine is set to debut on the Superb model soon.

New Mild Hybrid Engine Details

The updated 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with mild hybrid technology (MHEV) offers 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It pairs exclusively with a seven-speed automatic DSG gearbox and front-wheel drive. This setup replaces the previous 150 hp unit, marking a 10 hp increase despite the stricter Euro 7 emissions requirements that will take effect from late 2026 for new vehicle types and fully by late 2027 for all registrations.

The mild hybrid system improves efficiency without relying on plug-in charging, helping Skoda reduce emissions and avoid potential fines under tougher EU rules.

Performance and Consumption for Kodiaq and Superb

Skoda claims the Kodiaq with the new 1.5 MHEV engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 213 km/h. Fuel consumption ranges between 6.3 and 6.7 litres per 100 km based on the WLTP cycle.

The Superb variant shares the same 160 hp engine and torque figures but does not have published acceleration or top speed figures yet. Its fuel consumption is slightly lower, between 5.4 and 5.6 litres per 100 km. Notably, the Superb’s fuel tank holds 55 litres, larger than the 45-litre tank in its plug-in hybrid sibling.

Availability and Pricing in Spain

The Kodiaq 1.5 MHEV is now listed on the Spanish market starting at €47,300 for the Selection trim. The Plus trim costs about €49,400, and the Sportline version is priced at €52,200. These prices are effective from October 2026 and do not include discounts or promotions.

The enhanced engine option is yet to appear on the Superb in Spain, but Skoda will likely announce pricing for the large sedan’s two body styles soon.

Skoda’s Strategy Toward Electrification

Alongside developing full electric and plug-in hybrid models, Skoda is expanding its mildly hybrid lineup to meet increasingly tough environmental regulations. This approach allows the brand to improve emissions performance without switching entirely to battery-electric powertrains.

By introducing the updated 1.5 TSI mild hybrid engine in the Kodiaq and Superb, Skoda positions itself to avoid hefty penalties anticipated across the European market under Euro 7. Meanwhile, customers get a more efficient petrol engine with more power and refined performance.
