Chinese automaker BYD is set to introduce a new high-end luxury sedan called the Yangwang Altior. The vehicle aims to compete with top-tier cars like the Rolls-Royce Ghost and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. BYD plans to reveal the Altior on November 5 in Dubai, a key market for ultra-luxury sedans.
Design and Market Positioning
The Altior, previously known by the codename “HU,” features design cues that link it to BYD’s existing Yangwang U8 SUV, notably in the front-end styling. It sports rear-hinged doors, commonly referred to as coach doors, a feature usually reserved for the most prestigious sedans. A lidar sensor mounted on the roof indicates the use of advanced driving technologies. Large chrome wheels add to its upscale appearance.
The model will be branded Yangwang Altior internationally, while in China, it will carry the name Dingyao. This naming strategy is consistent with BYD’s approach for its other flagship models. The choice of Dubai for its debut reflects the city’s relevance as a strong market for luxury sedans.

Size, Pricing, and Target Competitors
The Altior is reportedly 5,500 millimeters (217 inches) long with a wheelbase of 3,350 millimeters (130 inches). These dimensions make it slightly smaller than the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost but still very substantial for a flagship sedan.
Reports suggest the price will be around 2 million yuan (approximately $300,000), putting it in range with extended-wheelbase versions of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and high-end Maybach S-Class models. BYD has not officially confirmed these figures.

Uncertain Powertrain Details
Currently, BYD has not revealed any specifics about the Altior’s engine or battery setup. It remains unclear whether the car will use a hybrid powertrain similar to the Yangwang U8 or introduce new technology altogether. Final specifications, including powertrain options and trim levels, are expected at the Dubai unveiling.
Overall, the Yangwang Altior represents BYD’s push into the ultra-luxury segment, aiming to take on some of the most prestigious sedans globally. More details will become clear once the full reveal happens next month.
