Stellantis has paused new hiring for technical and salaried roles at its North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This comes shortly after the company hired at least 2,000 engineers there earlier this year.
Focus on Integrating New Staff Amid Cost Control
The Auburn Hills facility, known as the Chrysler Technology Center, covers a wide range of tasks including vehicle development, testing, research, design, and marketing. The current hiring freeze impacts positions involved in future vehicle programs and administrative roles.
According to local reports, Stellantis had already begun scaling back recruitment in recent weeks, with only around 20 job openings mostly for internships and student programs during the latest period reviewed.
A company spokesperson explained that Stellantis now aims to focus on integrating the large number of new engineers hired in the first half of the year. The goal is to better utilise these new employees within existing teams and offer promotion opportunities to current staff.

Part of a Larger Strategy to Manage Costs and Investment
This hiring pause ties into Stellantis’ broader effort to manage expenses under its FaSTLAne 2030 plan. The company plans to invest over €60 billion (around $68 billion) from 2026 through 2030, while targeting annual cost savings of about €6 billion (approximately $6.8 billion) by 2028, compared to 2025 levels.
Within this strategy, 60% of brand and product investment will focus on the North American market, including efforts on 11 new vehicle launches.
Jeep and Ram are two key brands benefiting from these investments. The recently hired engineers are expected to contribute significantly to developing the next generation of models for these brands and others. Stellantis also aims to return to positive industrial free cash flow in 2027.

Recruitment Outlook and Opportunities
Stellantis has not provided details on how much the hiring freeze will save or when broader external hiring might resume. Current job openings now tend to target internal candidates interested in advancing or shifting roles.
For candidates outside the company, recruitment at Auburn Hills remains on hold until the freeze is lifted.
This move follows a late 2025 recruitment boost and indicates Stellantis is temporarily adjusting its growth pace to consolidate its workforce before continuing expansion.
