Zeekr, the Chinese premium brand under Geely, has been spotted testing its upcoming Zeekr 8X SUV in Europe. This new plug-in hybrid SUV aims to compete with established models like the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, and Audi Q7. The 8X is due to arrive in European showrooms in the first half of 2027.
Zeekr 8X: A Plug-In Hybrid SUV with Impressive Power
The Zeekr 8X is a large SUV measuring about 5.1 metres long. It sits just below the brand’s flagship Zeekr 9X in the lineup. Unlike Zeekr’s earlier fully electric models, the 8X offers a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Its combination includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors—one on each axle.
This setup reportedly produces a combined output of over 1,300 horsepower in its most powerful configuration. While Zeekr has not yet confirmed which versions will be sold in Europe, the hybrid system is a key selling point for the model.

Electric Range and Battery Options
The 8X will feature two battery options, a 55 kWh and a larger 70 kWh pack, both using nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry. The official electric range figures depend on testing cycles: the Chinese CLTC cycle suggests up to 410 kilometres in pure electric mode, while the WLTP standard used in Europe points to under 350 kilometres. This is a strong electric range for a vehicle of this size and weight.

Testing in Europe Confirms Zeekr’s Plans
Spy photos show a camouflaged Zeekr 8X prototype being tested on southern European roads. The silhouette and design seen in these images are consistent with the model already unveiled in China. The European testing signals Zeekr’s clear intention to launch the 8X on the continent.
The anticipated European launch could come as early as late 2024, with customer deliveries expected in the first half of 2027. Exact pricing for Europe has not been announced, but in China the 8X starts at around €46,700, though European prices are likely to be higher.
Zeekr’s expansion into Europe continues to challenge established premium brands by offering a mix of electric and hybrid options. The 8X is a significant step, bringing a powerful plug-in hybrid to a competitive premium SUV segment.
