Lexus is developing a more extreme version of its LBX Morizo RR performance crossover. Recent spy photos from the Nürburgring reveal significant changes to this sporty model, including an intriguing carbon fiber roof and updated bodywork that hint at improved handling and aerodynamics.
Visible Upgrades and Design Changes
The new prototype features a camouflaged roof that may be made from carbon fiber. This would reduce weight up high, lowering the center of gravity and potentially improving cornering agility.
The rear of the car shows a redesigned roof spoiler and revised exhaust tailpipes. Additional camouflage on the side skirts and front and rear bumpers signals a fresh design for these parts. Functional vents are integrated below the exhaust outlets, enhancing the car’s sporty image and possibly providing aerodynamic or cooling benefits.
Though the updated front fascia and side details remain partly hidden, these changes suggest Lexus is aiming for a sharper and more aggressive appearance compared with the current LBX Morizo RR.
Powertrain and Performance Expectations
The current LBX Morizo RR shares its powertrain with the Toyota GR Yaris. Its 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo engine produces 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel-drive system, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and reaches a top speed near 230 km/h.
It is unclear if the new LBX Morizo RR prototype features any engine upgrades. No details about increased power have surfaced yet, so it may focus more on handling and styling improvements at this stage.
Other Morizo RR Projects Underway
Lexus is reportedly developing a hotter RX Morizo RR as well. Expected for the 2028 model year, this version will feature a drastically revised exterior, a retuned chassis, upgraded brakes, and sporty bucket seats. Powertrain rumors point to a twin-electric-motor setup paired with a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing around 600 horsepower. This model aims to compete with performance SUVs like the Audi RS Q8 and BMW X5 M.
For now, the LBX Morizo RR facelift prototype provides a glimpse of Lexus’s intent to enhance its sporty crossover line. More details about these updates are expected as testing continues toward a future launch.
