KIA is gearing up to launch a bigger electric van named the PV7, which will join the existing PV5 model in its growing lineup of commercial electric vehicles. The PV7 was recently spotted during testing, revealing its design just days before the official reveal in Germany.
Design and Testing Details
The PV7 prototype was photographed driving openly on roads in southern Europe, without heavy camouflage. This rare visibility shows a larger van that looks like an extended version of the PV5, fitting KIA’s plan to offer a “bigger sibling” in its van range. The vehicle carries the usual KIA branding and its overall shape indicates a roomy interior suitable for both passengers and cargo.
Platform and Versatility
Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s e-GMP platform, the PV7 is confirmed to be a fully electric vehicle. It is the second model in KIA’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) range, following the PV5. The PV7 will feature various engine and interior layouts to serve multiple needs — from family trips to professional deliveries.
Powertrain and Features
The PV7 will use a battery based on nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) technology, with a capacity above 70 kWh. This battery offers an estimated range exceeding 350 kilometres under the WLTP standard. The van will also support vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, allowing it to power external electrical devices from its battery. Powertrain details are expected to be similar to those of the PV5.
Launch and Market Expectations
KIA plans to officially unveil the PV7 at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover, Germany, on September 14. Orders for the van might open before the end of this year. The new PV7 is already drawing attention from established competitors such as Ford and Renault, signaling a fresh challenge in the electric van market.
