Hyundai is gearing up to launch the fifth generation of the Tucson SUV in 2027. The new model will bring a full redesign, updated powertrains, and introduce Hyundai’s latest Pleos technology.
Visible Design Changes in Latest Prototype
The new Tucson has been spotted testing in Europe during summer conditions, this time with minimal camouflage. Unlike earlier prototypes heavily covered with vinyl, these latest images reveal more details like the headlights, grille, and bumpers. The design language is expected to feature sharp, straight lines, moving away from the current model’s more rounded shape. This aligns with Hyundai’s evolving style seen in recent models.
Powertrain Updates Focus on Electrification and Goodbye to Diesel
Hyundai will drop diesel engines entirely for this generation of the Tucson, reflecting the declining popularity of diesel in Europe and other markets. Instead, the lineup will consist of gasoline engines paired with 48-volt mild-hybrid systems. More capable hybrid options will also return, including self-charging hybrids (HEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV), both expected to have improved efficiency. The PHEV version aims to increase its electric-only range.
Adding to the range, Hyundai plans a high-performance Tucson N model, which will represent the sportiest and most exclusive option.
Launch Timeline and Market Rolls
Hyundai aims to unveil the all-new Tucson later this year. However, customers should expect to see the SUV at dealerships in the first half of 2027. The initial launch market will be South Korea, followed by Europe and other regions.
This generation is part of Hyundai’s broader plan to refresh its entire lineup of traditional internal combustion SUVs while pushing forward on electrification.
