Imagining Alfa Romeo’s Return to the Executive Sedan Segment with a New 169

Italian car artist Mirko del Prete, known online as mdpautomotive, has created a striking digital concept for an Alfa Romeo executive sedan, reviving hopes for a model beyond the current Giulia. His design, called the Alfa Romeo 169, imagines a sporty and elegant large sedan that could challenge rivals like the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.

A New Executive Sedan Vision

Alfa Romeo once offered executive sedans like the 164 and 166, produced between 1987 and 2007. Since then, the brand’s line-up has focused mostly on the Giulia sedan, Stelvio SUV, and newer Tonale compact crossover. Despite some success with smaller and electric models like the Junior, Alfa Romeo lacks a fresh competitor in the large sedan segment.

Del Prete’s virtual creation aims to fill that gap with a four-door sedan sporting classic Alfa Romeo sporty proportions. The design features a long hood, slim LED headlights, and a bold front grille typical of the brand’s identity. The profile includes muscular lines, teledial-pattern alloy wheels, and a quickback roofline that adds a sporty touch.

Modern Styling with Classic Alfa Romeo Touches

The rear of the concept keeps things sleek but aggressive, with wing-shaped LED taillights, a black diffuser, and quad exhaust pipes. These elements give the car a dynamic feel, possibly signaling a powerful engine under the hood, although no technical details are available.

Though this Alfa Romeo 169 remains purely a digital exercise, it reflects an appetite among fans and designers to see Alfa Romeo expand its range with a flagship sedan. Given the current focus on SUVs and compact models, a return to large sedans would mark a notable shift.

At present, Alfa Romeo has made no official announcements about plans to produce a new large sedan. The company’s recent struggles and its shift away from a full electric strategy highlight challenges that could delay or complicate such a launch. Still, this concept hints at what might be possible if Alfa Romeo aims to compete again in the executive sedan space.
