Genesis GV90 to Feature Coach Doors and Cinema Screen in Flagship Electric SUV

Genesis is preparing to launch its flagship electric SUV, the GV90, expected to showcase distinctive luxury features such as Rolls-Royce-style coach doors and a large in-car cinema screen. The GV90 aims to elevate the brand’s premium status in the growing electric SUV market.

Luxury Design and Features

The GV90 will stand out with its signature rear-hinged coach doors, similar to Rolls-Royce models, offering a unique entry experience. It will closely follow the design of the Neolun concept, featuring a bold and imposing style.

Inside, the GV90 could include a large “theatre screen” for passenger entertainment and use high-end materials like quilted leather and possibly wooden flooring. Prototypes suggest seating configurations could vary from three rows of two seats to an ultra-luxury four-seat layout with extra space and premium finishes.

Electric Powertrain and Performance

Based on its shared platform with the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, the GV90 is expected to be larger than both. It will likely come with a maximum battery pack of around 110 kWh, delivering a driving range of over 350 miles.

  • Dual electric motors for all-wheel drive
  • Power output expected to exceed 500 bhp
  • Fast charging capability exceeding 350 kW

Performance Sub-Brand and Broader Electrification Plans

Genesis will launch a new performance sub-brand called Magma, starting with the GV60 Magma, which offers 641 bhp and impressive acceleration. This will position Genesis alongside rivals like BMW M and Mercedes-AMG with a focus on electric performance and interior quality.

The brand will move away from traditional gasoline engines and focus on electrified powertrains including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, full-electric, and range-extender models. The GV70 is expected to be the first hybrid, while the GV90 might also receive a range-extender powertrain.

Why It Matters

The Genesis GV90 marks a significant step in Genesis’s push into the premium electric SUV segment. With unique features like coach doors, a cinema screen, and a strong performance profile, it aims to compete with luxury European brands. The GV90’s introduction will help Genesis establish itself as a serious player in the luxury electric market in Europe.
