Stellantis-backed Leapmotor International (LPMI) has appointed Danilo Annese as its new CEO. The move aims to strengthen the company’s effort to grow its electric vehicle business globally, especially in Europe.
Leadership Changes to Support Growth Ambitions
Danilo Annese officially became CEO of Leapmotor International on September 1, 2026. Before this promotion, he was the Head of Commercial Operations for LPMI in Enlarged Europe, where he worked to expand Leapmotor’s dealer network and boost sales. He replaces Tianshu Xin, who earlier this year moved to lead Stellantis’ China and Asia-Pacific operations.
To fill Annese’s previous role overseeing sales in Europe, Leapmotor has chosen Sander Jansen, former Managing Director of Stellantis Netherlands. Jansen will start as Head of Commercial Operations for Enlarged Europe on November 1, 2026. He brings significant experience with European markets, which are known for demanding car buyers.
Aiming for a Larger Share in the European EV Market
Stellantis and Leapmotor are combining their strengths by placing experienced executives in key roles. Annese’s focus is on global commercial expansion and managing the company’s strategic plans. Meanwhile, Jansen’s appointment is expected to enhance Leapmotor’s presence in Europe, where competition is fierce and customer preferences vary widely.
Stellantis aims to leverage Chinese EV technology through its partnership with Leapmotor. The joint venture intends to bring affordable and advanced electric cars to more markets before established European brands increase their efforts.
Both new executives expressed motivation to expand smart electric mobility. Annese highlighted his commitment to working with dealers worldwide to promote EV accessibility, while Jansen showed enthusiasm for making innovative electric vehicles more common across Europe.
