Ferrari fans might soon see a new, street-legal supercar powered by a high-output V6 without hybrid help. A heavily camouflaged 296-series prototype has been spotted near Ferrari’s Maranello plant, sparking speculation about a radical road-going version with a 730 horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine.
Prototype Seen Testing Near Ferrari Headquarters
The new prototype was caught on camera with thick camouflage and fake body parts, a method Ferrari has used before when testing near-production cars like the Daytona SP3. Observers say the car carries the latest 296 styling but differs from any current 296 model.
Many initially thought it could be a next-generation 296 arriving in 2027 or a track-focused variant called the “296 Challenge Stradale.” Yet, reports from spotters present suggest the engine sound confirms a non-hybrid V6 powertrain.

Non-Hybrid 730 HP V6 Could Power This Model
The prototype reportedly runs on a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing around 730 hp and 800 Nm of torque, without any hybrid system. This matches the engine used in Ferrari’s recent 296 GT Modificata, a track-only car announced last month with similar specs but no road approval.
If this new prototype is indeed a road-legal version, it would represent a significant departure from Ferrari’s current hybrid-oriented 296 models. Expect enhancements like a functional rear wing suitable for public roads and a front end adapted for necessary sensors, which the track-only Modificata lacks.

Unveiling Expected at 2026 Finali Mondiali in Barcelona
Ferrari is expected to reveal this model at the Finali Mondiali event from November 17–23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. This event usually features exclusive launches and special editions, making it a likely setting for Ferrari to introduce this new high-performance 296 derivative.
The 296 GT Modificata might have been just a preview, with this upcoming launch giving enthusiasts the road-legal supercar they’ve been waiting for, combining extreme performance with street usability, sans hybrid assistance.
More details should emerge closer to the official debut, but this new prototype signals Ferrari is exploring ways to push the V6 platform further without relying on electric motors.
