Two Alfa Romeo C-Segment Projects in Development
Stellantis, Alfa Romeo’s parent company, has confirmed a new compact car inspired by the Giulietta and 147, based on the future STLA One platform. This model, referred to internally as A2H, is expected to be a hatchback competing in the traditional compact car segment.
At the same time, there is a second project known as A2X—a compact crossover with a taller stance aimed at current European preferences. This crossover would sit between the Alfa Romeo Junior and Tonale in size, targeting rivals like the Volkswagen T-Roc and Toyota C-HR.
Confusion in Recent Reports
According to recent French media coverage, Alfa Romeo may be developing a new SUV sized around 4.35 to 4.40 meters. However, this could be a different vehicle from the confirmed Giulietta successor. The compact crossover is reportedly based on the STLA Medium platform, which is larger and different from the STLA One platform of the hatchback.
This SUV project is expected to replace the Tonale and may be produced in Italy’s Melfi plant. Meanwhile, the Giulietta successor remains described as a hatchback by Stellantis.
The Name Debate: Giulietta, Alfetta, or Milano?
While the next compact Alfa Romeo is widely linked to the Giulietta name, Stellantis has not confirmed this officially. Other historic Alfa names like Alfetta have surfaced in discussions, with CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato showing interest. There are also rumors about reviving the “Milano” name for a new Italian-made model.
Why It Matters
The future of Alfa Romeo’s compact segment is taking shape but remains flexible. The confirmed hatchback will continue the Giulietta legacy in a classic form, while a separate crossover project shows Alfa Romeo is adapting to changing market trends. Whether the Giulietta itself will adopt crossover features will depend on future decisions and consumer demand.
