Audi is entering the full-size luxury SUV market with the new 2027 Q9 and SQ9 models. These three-row SUVs are designed to compete with rivals like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS, offering more space and power than Audi’s current SUVs.
Larger Size and Bold Design Choices
The Q9 stretches to 209.1 inches long, nearly 10 inches longer than the Q7, with a 123.6-inch wheelbase—about six inches longer—and it stands 2.8 inches taller. Audi’s designers opted for smooth, clean surfaces on the Q9’s body, stepping away from the sharp creases seen on other models to emphasize a calm, commanding presence.
Lighting plays a standout role, with matrix LED headlights that automatically reduce glare on US roads by switching off individual LEDs aimed at other drivers. The taillights feature curved OLED panels that display different light patterns, including a triangle for hazard signals. While the European Q9 will offer a diesel hybrid, the US-bound Q9 and SQ9 stick with gasoline engines. The Q9 uses a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6, producing 429 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Audi claims a 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds for this version, which can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
The high-performance SQ9 steps up with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. It features a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system, an electronically controlled rear differential, brake torque vectoring, and comes with larger staggered-width tires on 22 or 23-inch wheels. The SQ9 can reportedly sprint to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and adds sport-specific design touches like a honeycomb grille and matte aluminum mirror caps.
Advanced Suspension and Driving Features
Both SUVs use adaptive air suspension that can adjust the ride height by up to 3.5 inches, with a maximum ground clearance of 10 inches. The SQ9 offers an optional sportier suspension tune, and both models provide four-wheel steering on higher trims. Various driving modes adjust suspension, steering, throttle, transmission, and torque distribution, with an automatic mode that selects the best settings depending on conditions.
Interior Comfort and Technology
The Q9 offers two seat layouts: a seven-seat 2-3-2 standard version and an optional six-seat 2-2-2 configuration. All seats have power adjustments, and child seat anchors are available in both the second and third rows. Standard front seats include heating, with ventilation and massage functions available in upgraded Sport Seat Plus versions.
Audi’s infotainment system features a large 14.5-inch central touchscreen, an 11.9-inch digital driver display, and a 12.3-inch screen for the front passenger. It runs on an Android-based operating system that supports third-party apps and Amazon Alexa voice control.

Launch and Pricing Details
Audi plans to start selling the Q9 and SQ9 in North America first, with deliveries expected late this year. The base Q9 starts at $89,095 in the US, with Premium Plus and Prestige trims priced at $94,695 and $103,795 respectively. The SQ9 is offered as a single, well-equipped trim at $119,395.
