Alfa Romeo Could Launch New SUV to Rival T-Roc and C-HR

Alfa Romeo may be preparing a new compact SUV to sit between the Junior and Tonale. The model would target one of Europe’s most competitive segments, with rivals such as the Volkswagen T-Roc and Toyota C-HR.

According to ClubAlfa, the new SUV could arrive before the next-generation Stelvio, which is now not expected before 2028.

New SUV Between Junior and Tonale

Alfa Romeo’s current SUV range has a clear size gap. The Junior is around 4.17 meters long, while the Tonale is around 4.52 meters long. A new model between them would give Alfa Romeo a stronger entry in the compact SUV market.

This would help the Italian brand compete more directly with mainstream and premium compact crossovers.

STLA Medium Platform Expected

The new SUV is expected to use Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform.

This architecture is already used or planned for models such as the Peugeot 3008, Citroën C5 Aircross, Jeep Compass, and Opel Grandland. However, Alfa Romeo would likely use a more compact setup to better match cars like the T-Roc and C-HR.

Hybrid and Electric Powertrains

The model is expected to offer both hybrid and fully electric versions.

Reports suggest a full-hybrid setup with around 200 hp could be part of the lineup. More powerful electric versions could also exceed 300 hp, depending on trim and configuration.

This would allow Alfa Romeo to serve buyers who want efficiency, but are not ready to move fully electric yet.

Milano Name Could Return

One interesting rumor is the possible return of the Milano name.

Alfa Romeo originally planned to use Milano for its small SUV before changing that model’s name to Junior. The name could now return for this larger compact SUV, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Why This Model Matters

Alfa Romeo needs more volume models in Europe.

The compact SUV class is one of the strongest parts of the market, and rivals like the Volkswagen T-Roc, Toyota C-HR, Peugeot 3008, and BMW X1 sell in high numbers.

A new Alfa Romeo SUV could give the brand a more practical and profitable model while keeping its sporty identity.

A Key Step Before the New Stelvio

With the next Stelvio delayed until 2028, this smaller SUV could become an important bridge model for Alfa Romeo.

If launched, it would expand the brand’s SUV range, improve its hybrid and EV offering, and help Alfa Romeo stay visible in Europe’s fast-changing crossover market.
